Battle of Lurwayizo session held in Mbhashe Municipality!!!

Dutywa – The session of the Battle of Lurwayizo held in Mbhashe Local Municipality, Dutywa offices on Monday,23 January 2023 between the Deputy Ministers, SALGA president, Executive Mayor of Mbhashe and MK Liberation War Veterans other key stakeholders yielded positive results.
Present in the session was the Deputy Minister Thembi Nkadimeng of the Department of Coperative Governance and Traditonal Affairs (DCoG), Deputy Minister Mcebisi Skwatsha of the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, the South African Local Government (SALGA) and the Executive Mayor-Cllr S. Janda. As he welcomed the guests and stakeholders from different place, the Executive Mayor expressed his gratitude to the Deputy Ministers and stakeholders who have managed to honour this session, he said this giving the purpose that led to the upcoming commemoration of the Battle of Lurwayizo and the background of Mbhashe heritage that counted among one of the richest in the heritage and tourism sector. He mentioned land developmemt initiatives of the high value crops found in Mbhashe i.e. Macadamia nuts and Moringa and the potential oceans economy development farming and agriculture and other potential developments.
The Excecutive Mayor pleaded for support from the Deputy Ministers offices, to assist the municipality and key stakeholders with initiatives of unlocking the development in the heritage and tourism of Mbhashe area to improve local economic development.
Cllr Bheke Stofile, the president of SALGA promised a continuous support to the municipality on its plans, strides and strategies to unlock development opportunities.
Mr Mayaphi of the MK Liberation War Veterans including the Jafta family who were directly affected by the Battle expressed their wishes in terms of development as part of peace and development actions. Cllr Jafta narrated the Battle scenes and occurrences of the 36 hour battle, to enlighten those who were not there during that time. Mbhashe Wool Growers Association was also part of the session.
