Mnquma Sports Confederation Awards

Gcuwa – Mnquma Sports Confederation hosted an awards ceremony to celebrate and honour individuals who have played a significant role towards sports development in Ngqamakwe, Gcuwa and Centane areas.

The awardees included current and former players, coaches, businesspeople, athletes, philanthropists, administrators, sports commentators, traditional leaders and local politicians, among others.

Several high-profile individuals attended the glittering evening held at a packed Butterworth Town Hall on Friday September 05th, 2025. They were provincial sports, arts and culture MEC Sibulele Ngongo, Education MEC, Fundile Gade, former Bafana Bafana striker Simpiwe Tshabalala, former Mayors and Councillors, among others. Over 40 green-striped blazers emblazoned with the confederation’s logo certificates of recognition were handed out during the event. Outgoing chairperson of Mnquma Sports Confederation Banzi Siyongwana described the session as a huge success that would motivate more people to develop sports in Mnquma. Mnquma’s Mayoral Committee Members, Cllrs Thobeka Bikitsha and Sisa Matutu conferred the awards on behalf of the Mayor. “Despite all odds, which include lack of adequate sporting facilities in our communities, Mnquma has produced outstanding players and administrators who continue to shine locally and internationally,” he said. He also thanked the sponsors for the award ceremony: Transtruct Ltd, GS Civils, Ilitha Pty Ltd, Metropolitan Life, Zenzile Engineering Ltd, Queen Motor Spares and Mr September.
