Mbhashe Local Municipality hosted an Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) forum meeting at the Municipal Council Chambers in Dutywa. The session was chaired by the Executive Mayor, Cllr Samkelo Janda, and brings together a wide range of government sector departments to report on plans/projects for 2025/2026 financial year.
The primary objective of the IGR platform is to promote cooperation, strengthen coordination, and promote alignment across the three spheres of government — local, provincial and national. This collaborative approach is aimed at ensuring improved service delivery, integrated planning, and the effective implementation of government projects for the 2025/26 financial year.
In attendance were representatives from the Department of Home Affairs, Department of Community Safety, Department of Human Settlements, Department of Education, Department of Social Development, Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, , Department of Transport, Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment, Department of Health, South African Police Service, Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Department of Agriculture, Amathole District Municipality, Eskom, the Eastern Cape Rural Development Agency, the Eastern Cape Development Corporation, Mbhashe Council Speaker Cllr Babalwa Majavu, Councillors and officials from Mbhashe LM.
Through this meeting, Mbhashe LM seeks to consolidate efforts, address service delivery challenges, and explore innovative solutions that will enhance the quality of life for its communities. The IGR forum also provides an opportunity to reaffirm government’s commitment to responsive governance, accountability and inclusive development.
